Cleaning and Care
of your American-Made Hardwood Furniture
Cleaning & Polishing Instructions:
- Use mild soap and water; and wipe dry with a soft cloth.
- For best results, factory recommended cleaners that are normally available at leading furniture stores include Heirloom Essentials and Guardsman products.
- Use a water based polish if you prefer an extra shine, do not use wax or silicone based cleaners.
Care Recommendations:
- Avoid using cleaners or polishes with abrasives, wax, silicones or ammonia.
- Keep furniture out of direct sunlight.
- Do not position furniture in close proximity to heating elements such as registers, baseboard or space heaters.
- Do not place unduly hot or cold cookware, appliances or utensils directly on your tabletop unless properly protected. Do not use vinyl/plastic tablecloths or placemats. The chemicals used to keep vinyl/plastic tablecloths and placemats supple can often react with wood finishes. Also, repeated use over time can damage your finish because moisture is consistently trapped between the placemat/tablecloths and finish.
- Maintain levels of humidity between 35% to 40% to minimize potential for swelling, cracking or warping. Keeping humidity at recommended levels may reduce heating costs, protect your family's health and extend the life of your furniture.
- Your hi-tech catalyzed varnish finish is formulated to resist blushing, discoloration, rings and stains provided spills and moisture are promptly removed and careful cleaning is regularly preformed.
- Your catalyzed finish fully cures in 30 days. Avoid any action or the use of cleaning agents that would mar or damage your newly applied protective coating within this time frame. Remember just like the most durable automotive finish that gets scratched, our finish is not impenetrable. It is the best most durable finish available.
- Dyes and inks, such as those from newsprint and plastic bags may penetrate into the finish when moist.
- Lift items rather than dragging them along the surface.
Table and Leaf Gapping:
- Table are each custom made. that means that no two tables are alike. each piece of the table is made to order. just like when it was in a tree, the wood used in our tables continues to breathe after it is built expanding and contracting with temperature and humidity. because of this we make our tables with a small bow in the middle where the table comes together to add leaves. this allows for expansion and contraction of the leaf. in the humid warmer month's the wood expands and the table will fit together tighter and in the dryer cooler month's you may see a small gap . this is normal .
